Tailwheel Transitions

The majority of aerobatic airplanes are taildraggers, so for the pilot serious about sport aerobatics, a tailwheel transition course is an eventuality. Learning to fly a tailwheel airplane will increase your overall skill and proficiency. You’ll become more sensitive to wind conditions and your awareness of landing speed and height above the ground will improve. The ACA Citabria is an excellent tailwheel trainer. Most pilots complete the transition course in an average of 10 hours flight time. The Pitts S-2B requires some additional skills due to its limited visibility (you can’t see over the nose while you land); however, an experienced tailwheel pilot can transition to the Pitts in 10 to 15 hours.
